Cantata Singers Young Performers Competition 2011

Mission: The Young Performers Competition is an event sponsored by The Cantata Singers of Elmira for the purpose of providing an opportunity for local youth to further develop and showcase their musical talents.

Auditions: January, 2011. Location, time and specific date to be announced.

Registration Deadline: All contestants must preregister by January 10, 2011

Rules:

*All participants must be within the approved age range of 15-20 at the time of the competition.

*Participants will perform a classical composition of their choice.

* Entries may be instrumental or vocal.

*Entries may be solo, duet, or ensemble.

*Memorization is preferred but not required.

*A piano will be available but participants should provide an accompanist.

*Time limit. For especially lengthy works, the judges may request specific sections for the performance.

*All participants must submit three (3) copies of their music manuscript to the judges prior to the audition. Copies of these materials may be used for judging purposes only. Copyright laws prohibit the use of photocopied music in performance. Use of photocopied music in the performance, whether by the performer or accompanist, may result in disqualification.

Competition Winner:

Will receive a cash award of $150, and will perform the winning entry at the Cantata Singers' Festival of Women in the Arts Gala Opening Concert on Sunday, February 27th, 2011
